What is the Overmolding?

Overmolding, also known as two-shot molding or multi-material molding, is a plastic injection molding process where two or more different materials are combined to produce a single, integrated part. This process involves molding one material (usually a soft or elastomeric material) over another material (usually a rigid plastic or metal component) to create a final product with improved functionality, aesthetics, or ergonomic features.

About Overmolding FAQ

How is the Overmolding process carried out?

Overmolding is the process of first injection molding the basic components, and then adding another material (covering layer) to a specific area or surface. This usually requires an additional injection molding process to add a second layer of material and ensure that the two materials can be firmly combined into a single part.

What is the production cycle of your Overmolding service?

The production cycle may vary depending on project complexity and requirements. Normally, we can complete customized prototypes or on-demand production of parts within the shortest 15 days. We are committed to efficient production processes to ensure timely delivery of high-quality finished products.

What are the industries in which Overmolding can be applied?

Overmolding is widely used in many industries, including medical devices, automobiles, consumer goods, electronics, and more. From soft handles in medical devices to anti slip functions in automotive parts, they can all be achieved through overmolding.
